Piercing Aftercare Suggestions
At Ocean Isle Ink & Piercing, we want to ensure your new piercing heals safely and comfortably. Follow these steps and tips to care for your piercing properly. If you have any concerns or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out or stop by for assistance.
General Body Piercing Aftercare
Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water before touching your piercing.
Clean the piercing site twice daily using a sterile saline solution. Soak a sterile gauze pad and apply it gently.
You may also use a sterile wound wash (available at our front counter).
Rinse with clean water and pat dry with disposable paper towels (avoid cloth towels).
Showering is fine—rinse thoroughly to remove soap or shampoo residues.
Expect mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or discharge during the early stages of healing. A thin white/yellowish discharge that forms a crust is normal.
Avoid rotating or moving the jewelry unless directed to do so.
Avoid the Following
Touching your piercing unnecessarily.
Hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, or ointments (these can delay healing).
Submerging your piercing in pools, lakes, hot tubs, or the ocean.
Cosmetic products (lotions, sprays, makeup, etc.) near the piercing.
Excessive pressure, friction, or snagging (especially with face or ear piercings).
Piercing-Specific Tips
Oral Piercings (Tongue, Lip, Cheek)
Use an alcohol-free mouth rinse after eating and at bedtime.
Avoid spicy, salty, acidic, or hot-temperature foods and beverages for several days.
Brush gently with a clean, soft-bristled toothbrush.
For tongue piercings, minimize talking and avoid playing with the jewelry.
Navel (Belly Button)
Wear a clean, breathable bandage or pad during high-risk activities (sports, sleeping, etc.).
Avoid tight or high-waisted clothing that may press against the jewelry.
Nipple Piercings
Soft cotton bras or snug sports bras may help reduce movement and friction.
Sleep in a clean, soft shirt or bralette for added protection.
Ear, Nose, and Cartilage
Be careful with hairstyles, headbands, and accessories.
Avoid sleeping on the pierced side when possible.
Final Notes
Healing times vary by piercing type. Be patient and consistent with care.
Jewelry should remain in at all times during healing.
